About
In these engaging new sessions Brighton Artists Network members will share the theories, philosophies, histories and figures that inform their practice. This month we're hearing from artists who use word and/or sound and we're really excited to announce the first artists sharing their practise's roots!
Fernando Machado
Screen Sounds: the covid-forced transition to online music workshops
Fernando is a musician, composer, workshop leader and teacher interested in cross arts collaborations and music making in community settings.
Paul Macauley
Beginning With Words: how to grow through your projects, practice and purpose
Paul creates work as a writer, playwright, theatre maker, filmmaker, artist, designer and performer. He seeks to create the most meaningful things he can and helps others to do the same.
Rachel Shorer
Rishi Sunak Isn’t Coming To Save You: artistic practice beyond existing structures
Rachel Shorer is a writer who uses personal experience to talk about wider social structures and issues. Through live performance and online writing she explores more equitable and sustainable methods of producing artistic work.
Artists are encouraged to join the audience - regardless of their artistic discipline or focus - expand their own critical framework and take part in questions and discussion at the end.
About our Root Sessions
Peer-to-peer support is a key value of Brighton Artists Network and our new Root Sessions have been created as a way to share what drives us as artists.
Each Root Session will feature up to five BAN members who will reveal one particular focus - or root - of their practice. By sharing the theory/philosophy/culture/ historical event/political act/important figure or anything else that drives , we will widen and strengthen our roots together.
You can get involved in two ways:
If you'd like to be a Root Session sharer, drop us an email at events@brightonartistsnetwork.co.uk and we'll be in touch with further details (please do this up to a week before the event).
Or take part by reserving your place in the audience and get to know more about your amazing Brighton Artists Network peers!
