About
A brick is an element of the derelict structure of 49a Highgate High Street. As a response to this site, four feminist U.K. based artists decided to collaborate in order to curate 'BRICK'.
The brick is a fundamental element to the architecture of the city that we live in. A body in the same sense is like a brick: as metaphorically the brick holds the city, our bodies hold ourselves - a physical representation of us. As a result, the works investigate this connection between body and brick.
Rosa Luetchford renders a realistic face whilst creating a hybrid structure of the female body.
Clara Dias alludes to the laceration of the human body and the nature of repairing and healing. By embodying material surfaces, the work reveals the relationship between skin and surface.
Rosie Crawley creates injury to the body in analogy to the urban environments that surround us.
Hebe Rut constructs a physical body of the beautiful and frightening realms within her mind.
