About
Mori and Stein Gallery presents its inaugural exhibition 'Bread + Butter'.The show comprises a group of young, talented artists responding to the complex identity of Contemporary Painting. Painting as a genre holds the weight of history on its shoulders and yet after its self reflective enlightenment through Modernism and beyond, it seemingly demands and doubts all the more.
In a struggle to produce work that is honest, fresh and self- affirming at a time when the genre is under such scrutiny, the artists offer responses that vary from reinterpreting traditional definitions of painting, to conceptually criticising the genre from within, rediscovering folk art and much more.
Through these fresh perspectives we wish to reaffirm the fact that Painting is alive and kicking, as relevant s ever and continues to the our bread and butter of our souls.
