Bow Skills Panel: Pricing & selling your work as an artist

Join us for an in-depth panel discussion on pricing and selling your work as an artist. Speaking on the panel will be Stephen Tribbel, Membership Development Manager for fine art buying schemes Own Art and Take it away, Fiona Atkins, founder of Townhouse Gallery, Sarah Monk, Director of London Art Fair, chaired by Sophie Hill, Director of Arts & Events at Bow Arts.

This talk will discuss key issues around pricing and selling artwork, including when to visibly price your work, the difference between original artworks and prints, gallery commissions, VAT and more. Each speaker will draw upon their unique experiences within the creative industries to provide the most appropriate advice and solutions for artists, designers and makers selling their wares. 

The evening will begin with a short introduction from each speaker about their practice and area of expertise, before moving into a facilitated discussion, and finally opening up to questions from the audience. Unfortunately there is no ‘one-fits-all’ method to pricing artworks, however this discussion aims to dispel any myths and provide some clear actionable advice on how go about pricing your work.

Bow Arts seeks to support creative professionals at all stages of their careers. In 2015 Bow Arts launched Bow Skills in response to an artist survey which showed over 90% of practicing artists find it useful to receive further support outside formal education. Bow Skills is a dynamic and relevant programme of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) which is informed by an artist steering group and open to all creative practitioners across London. The programme of talks, panel discussions, new skills labs and peer crits is open to all, with concession rates available to Bow Arts artists and students.

About Stephen Tribbel

Stephen has a background in business management and has previously managed art galleries, with experience in the primary and secondary art markets. In his current role as Membership Development Manager at Creative United, Steve is responsible for providing sales advice and support to a network of over 400 member galleries and musical instrument retailers under the Own Art and Take it away interest free credit schemes.

About Fiona Atkins

Fiona Atkins opened Town House in Spitalfields in 2002. Originally selling a mix of antiques and art, the emphasis soon became 20th century British Art with regular themed exhibitions. In 2013 the gallery hosted the return to the East End of the East London Group and highlights since then include the first exhibition of Doreen Fletcher’s 1980s work in 2016 and Eleanor Crow’s watercolours from her book ‘Shopfronts of London’ last autumn. Contemporary artists Nicholas Borden, Marc Gooderham and Adam Dant are among some of the local artists who have also exhibited at Town House and an open exhibition is planned for summer 2020.
