About

"The starting point for the work is a series of collages. Collage is a technique which collects and juxtaposes different kinds of material. It implies a revaluation of found material. which it elevates into the material of art. It is by its nature an inclusive process.

Working on these collaged drawings, At some point there was too much there, I decided to tear away material, in the process creating holes. I was removing something which I did not value in the context of this picture space. The material that was torn away is no longer accessible, instead there is a hole. Something has been devalued and rejected.

These holes which are completely arbitrary in their shape and their position, constitute an unintentional twin of the intentional work. I invite you to contemplate these holes not as absences, but as the work itself.

So these holes which are the unconsidered byproduct of one project, themselves become the project. The holes are the work and the collage, well the collage becomes simply the remainder, the placeholder for the holes.

Please direct your attention to the holes, it is the holes that matter."
