Physical expression workshop for actors, dancers and other performers of all genres.

About

Ney Hasegawa is a director, choreographer and performer who works with a keen sense of visual presentation and borderless perception. He is best known for The Absence of the City (2013), Attack on Dance (2014/2016), DANCE HOLE (2016), ENIAC (2017) and more. Guest-works include Kein licht (written by Elfriede Jelinek 2011), Under Execution, Under Jailbreak (original manga by Hirohiko Araki, co-choreographed by Mirai Moriyama, 2015), OPERABLACKJACK(original manga by Osamu Tezuka, musical direction by Akira Miyakawa; 2015/16), a SCRAP Real Escape Game, Escape from the Android Factory (co-direction 2018).

Ney Hasegawa will be coming to the UK this May to present his performance ‘United Me’ as part of the Electric Japan Tour visiting the Coronet Theatre London. Thu 19 May – Sat 21 May, 7:00 pm. United Me is an immersive solo work exploring invisibility and the spread of intolerance around the world. Ney's choreography is high energy, witty, questioning performances that use the global language of the body to tell his story.

A+E Lab is excited to host Ney Hasegawa's workshop of physical expression for actors, dancers and other performers of all genres (professional and amateur).

Aimed at age 13 + with no upper age limit.

The workshop will consist of "Blindfold work" to perceive the body through tactile and auditory senses. The participants are paired up, and A learns a simple choreography, and then tells the choreography to B who is blindfolded, using words only, movements only, etc. The choreography is simple and takes about 20 seconds, so it is more of a communication workshop than a dance workshop. The space becomes very theatrical at times.

Participants should wear loose and comfortable clothing.
