About
The human body is a complex vessel. For some, this container is the only home we ever truly own, a place to house the ideas, feelings and memories we collect throughout our lives.Body as Home features the work of Marisa Polin and Adriana Wynne, two artists who have experienced moving around the world and understand the anxiety caused by the constant search for belonging. They both coincide in London this year as they study an MA in sculpture at the RCA.
Through abstract shapes, personal palettes, and a wide range of materials their works map out their homes with their lifelong but ever-growing memories: their true belongings.
Their recollection shows opposite directions. While Polin deepens in straight hard lines and geometries; strolls between the pure bright colours of her felt wall pieces and the nearly uni-tone steel grey of her sculptures and presents an autobiographical performance on the private view evening. On the other hand, Wynne shows organic and seemingly soft materials in natural or pastel colours; presents gentle-looking metal and latex sculptures and a bodily large painting. They also collaborated on an intimate drawing: Body as Home, that gives the title to the show and alternates their contrasting qualities. There is a tangible effective conversation between both artists on their life vision. The majority of the works had been made especially for this duo presentation at Somers Gallery.
This exhibition invites us to glimpse into this embodied space. A place they call home.
