About
BODY and PLACE is a residency programme that takes drawing of the body out of the confines of the life room and into unusual contexts. Observational drawing taps into the creative axis of eye, hand and mind and this residency is an opportunity for professional artists to rethink and reincorporate drawing the body as part of their artistic practice. BODY and PLACE is for a group of cross-generational and cross-disciplinary artists who seek an intense and rewarding experience and for whom life drawing is outside their normal practice and their comfort zone.
In 2023, BODY and PLACE returns to Owlpen Manor, a private 200 acre estate in the Cotswolds, Gloucestershire for four days of exploratory workshops led by the revelatory and passionate tutors Thomas and Claire Newbolt. Participating artists are selected by theCoLAB Director Claire Mander and a panel of experts in the field of drawing including Rachel Sloan, Courtauld Institute of Art, Roger Malbert, former head of Hayward Touring, Nina Wisnia, artist and Patron of the Arts and Luce Garrigues, London Art Week.
