About

'An exhibition in several acts' By bringing together artists Bryony Gillard and Jenny Moore, Bobby's Recital will explore a mutual fascination with the practice and history of music-making. On the opening night, Jenny Moore will present The Succulents and Other Stories, or Life/Work Balance: a performance in seven movements for OHP, xylophone, guitar, voice, projection, balloons and literary heroes. The continuing exhibition will include instruments, logos, and books for both looking at and moving. Bryony Gillard will install a baby-grand piano in the gallery, presented as both an instrument/device, and as item of furniture or pedestal. Through a series of ‘acts' (performance, sound, instructional and narrative texts, and ambiguous objects), the ‘prepared piano' embodies the Classroom, Stage, Studio and Living room. Bobby's Recital will culminate with an event entitled Reading Group - more details to follow. Bryony Gillard is an artist and curator currently based between Bristol and London. Situated somewhere between performance, sound, text and object; Gillard's practice draws upon common social forms of interaction, traditional customs or accepted cultural exchanges. Recent of forthcoming projects/exhibitions include: ‘In the boom of the tingling strings' - South West Showcase (solo exhibition), PCA (2013), Last Orders, (solo exhibition), Motorcade/FlashParade, Bristol (2012), Latent Exhibition (publication), 2012, To Arrive Where We Started (publication) CCA, Glasgow, A Circle, CtoO, Plymouth (2011), Risk Assessment, ViewTube, London (2011), Free School/Lecture Hall, Five Years, London (2010). Bryony is also Co-founder of artist-led projects such as Project Space 11, Salon Southwest, and Come to Ours Jenny Moore works across disciplines including sculpture, performance, writing, drawing and music. Born in Canada, she is now based in London where she frequently collaborates with Gandt, a collective publishing project which hosts events, performances, dinner parties and exhibitions and uses collective authorship as a stage for productivity.
