One Eyed Jacks gallery is delighted to announce that it is premièring a new body of work by UK photographer Matt Henry. Blue River Falls has been two years in the making and features professional actors as well as intricate sets designed and built by the artist. The series comprises twelve diptychs (as per his critically acclaimed debut series Short Stories) with each image expertly tied to the other through a careful arrangement of colour notes, compositional balance and narrative play. Henry's unique approach to photographic narrative with the use of paired images offers viewers a space in which to construct their own narrative, successfully exploiting the delicate ambiguities that photography has over more nuanced forms of storytelling.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Matt Henry's work has to date focused on America during the 1960s and 1970s, a period in American history the artist was drawn to during his undergraduate studies in BA (Hons) Political Theory and again in his MA Photography. All of his works take the form of staged scenes constructed as set-builds in the UK using props sourced from here and the United States. More can be read about his practice here.
Matt Henry was the recipient of category first place in the International Photographer Awards 2013 and 2014, has exhibited in Europe, North America and Asia, and is regularly featured in art and photography publications. He is the focus of a 12-page feature in the current issue of International arts magazine Aesthetica alongside artists such as Barbara Kruger, Michel Gondry and Stan Douglas. His work has recently been acquired by London's prestigious Michael Hoppen gallery.
Blue River Falls will be published in book form and distributed across Europe, North America and Asia early 2015.
