The final instalment in Jamaica Street Artists year long illustration showcase features Blue, completing the circle. In contrast to the warm summer climate St George's Crypt Bar will be providing a cool haven, presenting a fresh take on illustration.
The exhibition highlights the dynamic associative power of colour, engaging the audience in making its own connections. The colour Blue has a universal appeal, used to depict the sea around us and the sky above us. ING Discerning Eye prize winner Rose Sanderson takes a humorous approach, creating water based characters Sinker and Floater. On a similar theme children's illustrator Serena Curmi produces a whimsical take on sea creatures, including the aptly named Blue Whale. In contrast the traditionally dark world inhabited by Mr Mead's surreal anthropomorphic bio-mechanical animals is given a fresh facelift as he swaps his bottomless black backgrounds for blue.
