Emma Witter's exhibition launch, a culmination of a three month artist residency at Mark Hix's Tramshed restaurant and Hix Art Gallery.
About
Witter’s sculptural works are formed from animal bones, which she often salvaged from her own cooking. After meticulously cleaning, bleaching and categorising the bones she’s assembles them into beautifully ornamental, organic forms.
Attracted to the bones’ strength and lightness as a material, the artist will appropriate carcasses recycled from Tramshed restaurant, highlighting its wide availability as an industrial by-product.
Her visual language is inspired by patterns in nature; her growing, undulating shapes appear almost alive. Witter’s mission is to create works that change our macabre perception of bone with the ethereal aesthetics of her sculptural works.
