This summer PocketSquare – the skyline bar at Hyatt Place London City East - is hosting an incredible photographic exhibition and ‘Meet the Artist’ event by one of the most recognisable Fashion, Beauty & portraiture photographers of his time David Stetson.
About
The exhibition is part of the Curated at Hyatt Place initiative - a revolving exhibition series that takes place across the Hyatt Place London City East Hotel in Whitechapel. The idea is part of a series of initiatives from the hotel’s General Manager which seeks to create new artwork and champion artists in their work with commissions and funding.
David Stetson’s Black & White exhibition at PocketSquare includes works from throughout David’s career. The exhibition is free for all visitors to the hotel and bar and comes with added views of the east London skyline. Each of the photographs within the collection have been created as a limited edition of 25 each image. All the artwork is available to purchase with 25% of all sales going into the Curated at Hyatt Place art bursary.
On 15th August at 7pm, PocketSquare will also host a free one-off ticketed Meet the Artist event that will see David Stetson in conversation with Proud Galleries Director Javier Robledo. Guests at the intimate event will receive a special commemorative ‘Black and white’ cocktail on arrival and learn more about David’s acclaimed photography. PocketSquare’s list of expert cocktails and paired bites will also be available.
Born in the east end of London, David Stetson’s career in photography began in the 1960’s. After launching a successful career through the 1970’s as a fashion photographer, he latterly established his own studio in New York. David’s outstanding body of work includes Celebrity Portraits, Classic Fashion & Beauty, Travel, Architecture, Nature & Landscape, Abstract and Documentary. Over the years he has compiled an extensive archive of very varied images which have been exhibited many times in galleries and exhibitions worldwide. David has received creative awards in photography and design and his photography has been exhibited at major galleries in London, New York, Tokyo, Singapore & Cologne. He also has two pieces hanging permanently in the Malcolm Forbes Private Art Collection.
Visitors to the exhibition can stay for some skyline cocktails choosing from PocketSquare’s expert art and creativity inspired cocktail list – ‘The PocketSquare Collection’. Drinks include charity cocktail In2Art; a homage to local visual art and design charity Intoart, each drink is served with a piece of rice paper showcasing new artwork from the charity’s artists and £1 from every sale will be donated to the charity.
The PocketSquare team are passionate about championing young and up-and-coming artists. Last year the bar worked with east London Street artist Jay Kaes on a specially commissioned artwork for the bar. This summer PocketSquare collaborated with University of the Arts London textile design graduate Ellen Russell to transform the terrace for summer.
