An exhibition of paintings from a group of artists with a sense of place.
About
In 2014 the Black Mountain Painters emerged, meeting regularly at the studios of artist Niel Bally, based in the Black Mountains near Talgarth, Wales. The group of 7 artists (Niel Bally, Virginia Brown, Deb Catesby, David Hall, Faye Kinsella, Andy Thornley and Nick Weaver) exchange ideas and discuss issues arising from their work as painters. There is no manifesto, leader or guiding force behind the group. The intention is to support development as well as to solve artistic problems and deal with technical issues as they arise. This is the first time the group has exhibited together and indeed for some the first time they have shown their work at a gallery. Each in their own way seeks to find better ways to communicate the sense of place which seems to be at the centre of all their different approaches and practices. So, they chose ‘Colour, Form and Place’ as an appropriate title for this exhibition. It signals the preoccupations they share as painters.
