This course is aimed at beginners regarding biodesign and bio-fabrication using living organisms to make objects with a Osmose.
About
In the masterclass and hands-on workshop, you will learn about mushrooms and how they are a truly incredible family of living organisms in the fight against climate change. You will learn more about fungi in the wild, its life-cycle as a material and how it can be used in art, architecture, design and materials.
The second part of the session will be a practical workshop where you will be shown how to use mycelium substrate to grow your own product or object independently. You will acquire the scientific protocol to make sure you can successfully obtain a grown object without contamination and safely at home, if you are looking to explore this further.
You will learn:
· Basic biology protocols
· How to use mycelium ready-to-grow substrate to create shapes and objects
· Learn about how fungi grow in the wild and for material-making.
· Safety practices for biological protocols
· Theory on how to safely forage for mushrooms
