Selected artists from Jerwood Drawing Prize 2016, Richard McVetis and Bruce Ingram, will run practical drop-in drawing projects that are suitable for all ages as part of The STEAM Powered Big Draw Festival.
In his workshop, ‘The Drawn Thread’, Richard McVetis will work with participants to explore the enormous scope and versatility of drawing through stitch. Come along to create textures and patterns by working a stitch in different threads, playing with scale and spacing, and combining mark-making techniques. The workshop will encourage an experimental approach to stitch that draws on the imagination of each participant.
Bruce Ingram’s workshop, entitled ‘Kaleidoscopic Leaves’, will look at the process of drawing through collage. Working with black and white photocopies, participants will transform an image of a leaf, creating individual colourful designs. Artworks will explore themes of natural form, decay, camouflage and habitat.
Jerwood Drawing Prize is a joint initiative, led by Professor Anita Taylor, at Bath Spa University, School of Art and Design, and supported by Jerwood Charitable Foundation through its contemporary gallery programme Jerwood Visual Arts. The 20th anniversary of the Jerwood Drawing Prize exhibition was celebrated in 2014, and in 2015 Jerwood Charitable Foundation marked 15 years of its support for the prize.
