Newcomers, Migrants, Refugees, Expats, Berliners, everyone welcome to a collective exploration on new Trans/National Dishes for Berlin.

About

#BeyondtheDöner is an evening of storytelling and cooking to reflect and discuss informally about current transnational Berlinian identity and to promote non-transactional intercultural interactions.

Berlin often boasts of its 190 nationalities in its population of 3.605.000. Yet, intercultural population might differ from intercultural interaction.

What is it needed for this interaction to take place?

The origin of several dishes traveled the world. Many of them are signs of cultural exchange, multiculturalism or diversity, but at the same time they can be the result of colonialist and capitalist models that positioned a culture above the others. Ingredients and people flow across different territories, come together and clash in locations with high concentrations of humans. What's their origin and their end? How can people that share a common ground, come together and define the place they inhabit?

At CLB Berlin in Kreuzberg we would like to trigger a horizontal collective exploration, envisioning new trans/national dishes for Berlin.

People behind scenes:

Daniela Medina Poch is a colombian artist who studied fine arts at Escola Massana of Barcelona. Her work explores the tension between site specific public and private spaces where she intends to alter the status of common social practices to understand how these build us both individually and collectively. Her work digs into the politics of identity to design appropriation rites that question who is entitled to talk about what. With Raul Marroquin, Daniela coordinated the LowTechLab at Saatchi Gallery and participated in selective shows such as LOOP FESTIVAL-City Screen and FUTURE LANDSCAPES. International Art and Architecture Festival in Venice. She's currently part of FLORA ars+natura residency program.

Juan Pablo García Sossa is a Colombian Interaction Designer and New Media Artist exploring and redefining how High & Low Tech dynamics construct cultures in everyday life. A main inspiration in his practice comes from the implications and opportunities that emerge from the collision between New Technologies and Popular Culture. JPGS analyzes potential and possible futures, models and speculative systems that he then transforms into narrative experiences of interaction. He studied Visual Communication at The University of The Arts UdK Berlin, mainly at the Digital Class from prof. Joachim Sauter and was also part of the Class of prof. Ai Weiwei.
