AboutThis ambitious project brings together new and existing work by contemporary artists and makers whose work references pattern and its potential to exist as a social, cultural and political commentator. Reaching beyond the purposes of ornamentation and decoration, artists working in Wales and from other parts of the UK present a diverse reflection of how pattern might present opportunities to enlighten, subvert, de-stabilise and offer reflection on our view of the world.
The exhibition includes new commissions by Steve Messam, Catherine Bertola and Angharad Pearce-Jones and work by Michael Brennand-Wood, Nisha Duggal, Leo Fitzmaurice, Doug Jones, Adam King, Pamela So, Henna Nadeem and Andrea Stokes.
This project has been made possible through an Arts Council of Wales Beacon Company Award 2008-10. Thanks to the Laura Ashley Foundation and Arts Council England Grants for the Arts for their generous support of Beyond Pattern. Catherine Bertola is represented by Workplace Gallery, Newcastle Upon Tyne; Doug Jones is represented by Ceri Hand Gallery, Liverpool; Adam King is represented by Pippy Houldsworth Gallery, London
