Contemporary Irish landscape painter Paul Hughes debuts at the Kings Road Gallery

About

The Kings Road Gallery & Tanya Baxter Contemporary are introducing a new artist to the fold, Paul Hughes, and will be holding their debut solo show for him, opening on 30th June 2009. Paul Hughes draws inspiration from the landscapes of his native Ireland to create sublime and yet dramatic depictions of the horizon. The depth of colour and texture, coupled with the mystery of the artist's subject, create haunting works on a large scale that dominate and yet compliment their surroundings. Paul was born and raised in Dublin. He works out of his studio, an old pig barn on Frascati Park in Dublin. It gives him the space and opportunity he craves to develop a continuous flow of new abstract landscapes. Paul has been painting for over 20 years. Over this time he has built up a very loyal following. His work is often likened to that of Rothko, with a technique of layer upon layer of colour that creates an initial solid appearance, when in fact, upon closer inspection; one can see a plethora of colour and texture. Hughes work is ambiguous in its subject, as the viewer is invited to derive their own emotion from them.
