An alumnus of the Royal College of Art, artist Russell Terry works within drawing, painting, printing, casting, and collage, often utilising hand-cut paper. The results of which reveal compulsive inclinations towards pattern, sequence, systems, combinatronics and cataloguing, always in the great corrupting shadows of infinity. Russell says “Everything declared finished is really a punctuation mark or a breathing space in a potentially endless sentence in a potentially endless
book in a potentially endless library. Like this condensed statement, everything is forever a work-in-progress.”

An introduction to the formal elements of art and generative process with the artist Russell Terry. This is a highly active drawing day with exercises and reflection on the so-called ‘formal elements of art’ - line, shape, form, tone, colour, pattern, texture. Students will explore these elements from three overlapping approaches - Fast studies of historical and modern masters, learning fundamental observational drawing tips and employing generative/systems-based production.
