About
For the first time in its London exhibition space, Opera Gallery is delighted to present the fascinating work of Andy Denzler.
The Swiss painter’s latest series “Between Here and There” explores the romantic idea of young urban creatives’ existence in the inner city life: a creative mind surrounded by the decay of buildings, a search for identity within the fast paced world.
ANDY DENZLER
Andy Denzler was born in Zurich in 1965 and is a graduate of London’s Chelsea College of Art and Design.
The artist weaves nostalgic photorealism with gestural expression in his style of painting. Through the use of intricate and detailed images, staggered by recurrent flowing horizontal sweeps of the brush, Denzler’s works resemble at once a still from a paused film and a fuzzy dreamlike memory.
In his art, Denzler has integrated knowledge acquired from a background in new media and computer graphics with a colour palette that is inspired by old dusty polaroid cameras and the abstract expressionist movement of the 1950s.
QUOTES BY ANDY DENZLER
“I’m principally concerned with addressing time and evoking a narrative through composition, light, and motion”.
“I depict time by applying a filter of motion and distortion”.
