Crane Court Gallery presents a new exhibition that explores the parallels between figuration and abstraction within the field of painting and drawing. Seven new artists will present work across all four floors of the gallery.
About
On the surface, abstraction and figuration can appear as opposites, opposing forces even. Figuration tells a story, presents familiar scenes and perhaps even shows us something of ourselves. Abstraction is often the strength of feeling and emotion transferred into gestural paint strokes.
Yet, time spent with a painting from either field can reveal similarities and points of connection, once refined lines appear to break down and those gestural marks begin to connect and reveal something unexpected.
This exhibition seeks to present works of both figuration and abstraction and those that sit somewhere in between, drawing a line between them all and asking that we look again and look beyond the surface.
