Beth Atkinson's installation The Score and the Loop draws on the looping, repeating and rhyming connections of landscape, stories and song: the gallery room becomes a stand in for the Sacred Harp hollow square with four part harmony singing by the London Sacred Harp Singers played in surround sound, placing the visitor in the centre. This sound work originates from the 19th century shape note tradition, using a visual musical system. The genre is not often recorded or âperformed' for an audience: the private view on Thursday 5 December will be a rare opportunity to witness this powerful and unusual singing live by the London Sacred Harp Singers
The Score and the Loop is part of CANAL's Show Continues series, presenting the best of London's recent art graduates
