PHOTOGRAPHY AND MUSIC COMBINE IN AN INTIMATE PORTRAIT OF BERLIN
About
Over a period of four years, under the moniker 'We Are Willow', artist and musician Chris Butler and photographer Will Grundy travelled back and forth between temporary addresses in Berlin and the UK, capturing an unrivalled perspective on its position as a vibrant, contemporary capital of escape and endeavour. Tracing the outlines of the people, places and situations encountered there, offering a multi-disciplinary experience of the rhythm of the city. Their collective approach has realised a remarkable, voyeuristic perspective on travel, escape, cities and personal relationships.
With the support of Arts Council England, We Are Willow publishes the collective experiences in a limited edition book and 9 track album beautifully designed by designer and co founder of the collective, Daren Newman. The result... a book, album and exhibition all come together in 'BERLIN'. Following an exhibition at Manchester's Whitworth Art Gallery, which extended by ten days longer than advertised and the biggest turn out to an opening night live performance The Whitworth's Grand Hall has seen, the duo are now bringing their work to London with a special exhibition of the Berlin photographs, as intimate as the work itself, for one weekend only.
