Neil Martinson peels away the layers to reveal a Berlin that is hidden in plain sight.
About
Berlin is a city at the crossroads of history, where the weight of the past is ever present and can never be forgotten. Some signs are obvious: the memorials to the victors, and the vanquished, to the living and the dead. Can there be any other city that has seen so much loss and trauma from its darkest years? Yet each brought a new beginning – post-war reconstruction, re-unification and, now, a digital revolution.
Working in photography, sculpture and installation, Neil Martinson peels away the layers to reveal a Berlin that is hidden in plain sight. His images pose questions, amid ambiguity, of a shapeshifting city in constant change. Cool, calm, images that make you step back and wonder.
Launching Thursday 18th October, 6-9pm, free entry
Open daily 19th-31st October, 9am-5pm, free entry (Please note that Stour Space is closed to the public on 20th Oct)
