Wet Socks is an exhibition revisiting recent paintings by Cornwall-based artist Ben Sanderson made in different contexts and settings that resonate with personal and collective symbolism. These are quiet, dreamlike images situated on raw canvas that scale up and down according to the magnitude of the vision. Some appear provisional, hastily put down, as though the artist is moving on to another thought, but this apparant informality belies the deliberation, revision, addition, erasure that has taken place.
Join us for a drawing workshop and discussion event to launch Wet Socks on Wednesday 17th January, 5-7.30pm. Ben will give a tour of the exhibition and invite participants to take part in a couple of experimental drawing exercises, both individually and collectively, followed by informal discussion. Ben Sanderson is a painter, and one of sixteen artists based at CAST in Helston, Cornwall. He is currently undertaking Syllabus III, a peer-led roaming study programme. In January 2017 he was artist-in-residence at Crossroads, a Dementia Care Home in Scorrier, Cornwall. Recent exhibitions include ‘What Is This Place?’, Newlyn Art Gallery, Cornwall; ‘Smile Orange’, Cubitt Gallery, London; and ‘Testing Tropes’, Kestle Barton, Cornwall. In collaboration with Ella Frears he recently completed a commission for Tate St Ives in the new Clore Sky Studio.
