Private view at ST.ART. Our lives are dramatised by social norms, but art allows us to explore true selves and emotions beyond appearances.
About
There are so many dramas in our world today. Our lives are constantly dramatised: our being, our actions, and the way we arrange our lives within the social context and norms that we are expected to perform under.
We might all be guilty of craving a little drama to keep us focused on the task at hand. For example, the dramatic performance we embed in our communication with each other, whether out of compulsion as part of the 'social code' or to better illustrate, to 'exemplify' the core message we are trying to convey.
Art is another way to exemplify, in Goodman's words, as a 'way of world-making. It draws a vision of the world we desire while allowing us to explore our subjective experience inwardly; it is vital to embrace the authenticity of the self so that we can bring about the changes we seek.
The featured artists attempt to respond to the dramaturgy of actions in our daily lives by going beyond appearances — to explore what the 'subject' feels beneath the mask.
