Verity Howard describes her slab-built ceramic forms as 'contemplative rather than functional', each conveying a sense of stillness and the eerie sensation of being an outsider looking in. Influenced by the built environment, each piece features a monoprinted or stamped glimpse through a window.
Verity Howard’s slab-built ceramic forms are inspired by her fascination with people’s everyday lives and activities. Each piece features a monoprinted or stamped glimpse through a window, and conveys a sense of stillness, absence of presence, and the eerie sensation of being an outsider looking in.
Behind Closed Doors features pieces made for Verity’s final project at university alongside new work made during a 2015 residency at Guldagergaard: The International Ceramic Research Center in Denmark.
Verity Howard won Manchester Craft & Design Centre’s 10th annual MMU Graduate Solo Exhibition Award in 2015. MCDC will be celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Award with 10 special events and commissions. For more information visit www.craftanddesign.com/mmu10
