Explore and investigate a broad range of traditional and contemporary painting processes and practices.
Over a 10 week course you will learn a variety of traditional painting techniques using acrylics.
About
This painting course will be open to all abilities from complete beginners who haven’t done art since school, to those who use art as a hobby, as well as artists wanting help developing their own work and practise. Over the course, you will develop your awareness of painting as a unique means of visual communication.
Through practical work you will consolidate your knowledge of visual grammar and expand your visual literacy. You will consider how ideas, information and feelings can be articulated, transformed and conveyed through visual systems, processes and conventions. As well as having the opportunity to reflect on historical precedents and draw upon your own experiences, you will be encouraged to explore your own aesthetic abilities and visual judgements which will form a fundamental part of your practise.
Each session will give you the opportunity to use your imagination and develop those inventive processes alongside traditional and contemporary techniques. You will make art as an artist does and develop your project from its conceptual beginning to its physical end. The course will help you develop a deeper understanding of art and how as practitioners we think and realise work.
This course provides skill based learning in order to deepen the understanding and applications of the visual language that surrounds us. During the 10 weeks you will build up to the creation of your own finished painting in acrylics as follows:
1. Colour Theory
2. Imprimatura and Underpainting
3. Skin Tones and Portrait Study
4. Chroma Still Life Study
5. The Organic Landscape
6-10. Project
