About

Gosh! is excited to announce that we'll be hosting a launch party with Barnaby Richards on Friday July 10th to celebrate the release of his latest book Beetroot!

Beetroot is Barnaby's first graphic novel but he's had a storied history on the UK comics scene, including contributions to Sturgeon White Moss, and Tanya Meditzky collaboration Two Sentences. He has illustrated for a range of clients from The Guardian G2, The Independent, and Walker Books, to Paul Smith Jeans. Beetroot tells the story of how his family moved to Beriut in 1980 and shows through the lens of a child's understanding what it's like to live in a city where danger is always lurking as the situation in Lebanon turns from bad to worse.

Blank slate says ' All seen through the eyes of a child who can’t get his tongue round the word Beirut–it becomes Beetroot–a world populated with his own wild imaginings as well as the reality of feeling he is living as if he were Lebanese: a blue eyed, arab boy. Dreamily-etched pictures take us inside young Barnaby’s mind as he dodges bullets and giant sentient snakes, and wanders across the city’s rooftops with his imaginary friends. Open this book and accompany him on his journeys, encountering the many unknowable people and bizarre creatures with mysterious agendas who populate the strange world of Beetroot. Ultimately this book is about the way memory works, how when combined with a child’s ability to mix reality and fantasy it leads to unreliable memories. Unreliable memories which become long-held realities.'

If you fancy getting your hands on a copy of the book then head along to our launch party on Friday the 10th of July between 7-9pm. Barnaby will be about signing copies but if you can’t make it along on the night we’re happy to put a copy aside from you; simply pop an email to info@goshlondon.com and we’ll get that done. If you’d like one mailed out then it’s a flat rate of £5 for postage in UK and quotes for the rest of the world are available on request.
