About
On April 18, Friday, at 6 pm, we invite you to the opening of the video art exhibition BeComing by three Lithuanian artists Aistė Ambrazevičiūtė, Patricija Gilytė and Simona Žemaitytė, which will take place at Meno parkas Gallery (Rotušės a. 27)
Meno Parkas gallery is presenting the exhibition ‘BeComing’ by three Lithuanian artists Aistė Ambrazevičiūtė, Patricija Gilytė and Simona Žemaitytė, that was a part of the programme of the ‘Lithuanian Season in France 2024’, organized by Meno Parkas Gallery in collaboration with Videoformes, French organization that fosters video and digital art. First held in the Chapelle de l'Oratoire (Chapel of the Clock), an experimental art space in Clermont-Ferrand, the video installation is now being moved to the attic of the Meno Parkas gallery.
BeComing brings together artists who approach urgent ecological and social questions through installation and video. The exhibition foregrounds perspectives often pushed to the margins of the art world, highlighting how nature, technology, and feminist thinking intersect in contemporary practice.
Aistė Ambrazevičiūtė’s architectural forms—like digital organisms modeled on lichens—exist somewhere between simulation and biology, evoking an artificial ecosystem that grows, shifts, and resists categorization. Patricija Gilytė’s videos and installations use the figure of the fir tree to reflect on cycles of consumption and ritual. By tracing the tree’s passage through festive and discarded states, her work subtly critiques the commodification of nature. In Simona Žemaitytė’s installations, questions of death and cultural memory surface through archival research and symbolic imagery, unsettling dominant narratives and creating space for alternative understandings of grief and heritage.
The artists share an interest in how care, both as practice and perspective, shapes how we relate to one another and to the nonhuman world. As climate instability and technological acceleration reshape everyday experience, the exhibition suggests ways of thinking beyond extractive systems—less as definitive solutions than as experimental approaches to coexistence.
The idea of presenting the exhibitions of the Lithuanian Season in France 2024 in Lithuania was born out of a wish to maintain the sustainability of artworks and projects - we aim to share the projects that represented Lithuania in the world with the gallery's most loyal audience. While creating the exhibitions, we were trying to establish a connection with the French viewer and to awaken an empathetic response to the themes explored by Lithuanian artists. It is equally important to hear the response to how we present ourselves and how we are seen abroad to stimulate a dialogue in Lithuania.
