Bathing Beauties: Re-imagining the Beach Hut for the 21st Century
About
Bathing Beauties features over 100 scale models produced by architects, artists and designers from 15 countries in response to an artist-led competition to design and build beach houses on the Lincolnshire coast.
This celebration of architectural flights of fancy evokes elements of the seaside, such as pleasure boats, deckchairs and sand between your toes. Inspiration comes from Victorian and Art Deco architecture, Airstream caravans, Nissen huts and Star Wars. Traditional seaside references are largely absent, replaced by structures incorporating wind turbines, saunas, camera obscura, viewing platforms and space-age materials.
Bathing Beauties is a National Centre for Craft and Design touring exhibition curated by Michael Trainor.
