No.1 Station Approach
Hereford, United Kingdom
Join us for the public launch of Baroque Sprawl (2024) by artist Laura White!
Artist Laura White, originally from Worcestershire, brings the energy and elegance of Baroque art to Hereford with a captivating new commission inspired by Gian Lorenzo Bernini’s Apollo and Daphne (1622-25), a masterpiece of Baroque art that captures the moment a nymph, Daphne, transforms into a laurel tree to escape the clutches of Apollo.
This two-part installation establishes a vibrant conversation between the city and the magnificent landscape that surrounds it. White’s playful use of materials creates a dynamic interaction between the artwork and its urban surroundings and celebrates the transformational power of art.
Join us for the public launch of this exciting project, meet artist Laura White, and learn more about the inspiration behind the work and the fabrication of this monumental installation.
Commissioned by Meadow Arts and Hereford College of Arts, Baroque Sprawl (2024) is the third bold commission of public artwork for No.1 Station Approach. It is one of fifteen projects launched in the city thanks to the support of Stronger Hereford, that aims to make the city greener, fairer, creative, digital and more connected. With support from HM Government’s Towns Fund to help Hereford blossom into a richly creative, digital, connected and highly-skilled place to live, work, study, visit and invest.
