About

Manchester-based artist Barney Ibbotson comes to the New Cross Gallery for his first exhibition on June 4th. Barney's work is inspired by a chidhood of comics, richly illustrated books and 1970s cartoons, yet also takes cues from Keith Haring's iconic work and Basquiat's naif style. His love of on-the-hoof sketching led to his participation in live 'Doodlebug' events in Manchester and London, alongside artists such as Mr. Scruff and Pete Fowler. Barney honed his improvised style on these occasions, covering windows and walls with intricate linear patterns using marker pens. In this exhibition of work, using full-spectrum colours and scanned drawings, Barney doodles his way into daft worlds and strange cityscapes, where nothing is immediately what it appears to be. Barney will be doodling on the night too!
