The five international artists brought together by Tonico Lemos Auad in this new group show share a freedom and fluidity regarding their chosen medium, often working across a blend of painting, sculpture, ceramics and textile. Many of them choose to disrupt traditional working methods, led not by technique but rather by ideas such as identity, tradition, displacement, and exploration of the subconscious.

Focussing on clay, the exhibition will explore contemporary approaches to ceramic practices that Auad describes as “open-minded”. Irrespective of contextual difference – the five artists are native to five different countries – Auad’s selection of works explores the notion of freedom in contemporary artistic practice.
