A spectacular display of large-scale watercolours, reflecting the Lake District’s dramatic environment.
About
These monumental watercolours emerge from a process of manipulating coloured pigment in large quantities of water. The pigments behave in a variety of ways; some gather in dark, opaque pools, others are translucent, lapping at the paper to form gentle tidal marks.
Using walking as a way of deeply immersing herself in nature, the artist absorbs the effect this has on her own body. Back in the studio, there is a lengthy process of applying a huge variety of watercolours, allowing them to pool, flood and evaporate on the paper.
The resulting paintings evoke the sweeping contours of land and water viewed from the air, tiny organic life seen through the lens of a microscope, ancient geological formations or the workings of the human body.
