About
An interesting artistic approach Balraj has is his inclusion of sand to which he mixes into the primer for his meticulous spray technique allows Balraj to achieve a finely textured, luminous ground where his cut-out figures float weightlessly.
In 2001, he was commissioned to the paint the Safety Curtain by Birmingham Hippodrome Theatre which is one of the largest works of public art in the UK. He is one of the few artists to have been commissioned to do a piece of that size. The piece is called “Astral Dance”.
He is a prolific and acclaimed author whose books including Nation of Fools was judged as one of the 200 best novels since 1950.
He had been reviewed highly by critics alike including, Richard Cork (Chief Art Critic for The Times), sue Hubbard (The Independent), Mel Gooding (Art Monthly) and Alison Beckett (Exhibition review in The Times).
