“Balancing the Scales. Fairness in the Palette of Art” invites 24 international artists to engage in a profound exploration of equity, justice, and the myriad dimensions that define what is fair.

About

Step into a realm where canvases become mirrors, reflecting the complex and nuanced concept of fairness. “Balancing the Scales. Fairness in the Palette of Art” invites artists to engage in a profound exploration of equity, justice, and the myriad dimensions that define what is fair. What does it mean for something to be fair? Is it a universal truth or a subjective interpretation?

“Balancing the Scales” challenges to grapple with these questions, pushing the boundaries of artistic expression to capture the essence of fairness in its various forms. Through diverse mediums, we seek to unveil the layers that shroud this elusive concept.

History serves as our teacher, offering lessons on the evolution of fairness across cultures and periods. From revolutions to social movements, the struggle for justice has left its mark on humanity. “Balancing the Scales” encourages artists to draw inspiration not only from historical narratives but also from philosophical insights, infusing their work with reflections on the lessons learned and the ongoing journey towards a more equitable world. Aristotle's virtue ethics and Arendt's exploration of justice in political contexts provide a rich backdrop for artists as they delve into the historical struggles for justice.

How can art be a catalyst for change and a transformative force in advocating for equity? Artists participating in “Balancing the Scales” are urged to explore that and build their expressions on the shoulders of contemporary concepts such as Martha Nussbaum's capabilities approach and Amartya Sen's theories on justice and development. Whether through visual art, sculpture, or other mediums, each piece contributes to a collective narrative that challenges norms, questions biases, inspires meaningful reflections and envisions a more just society.

“Balancing the Scales” is more than an exhibition; it's a conversation starter. We engage in a dialogue that confronts, questions, and imagines a future where fairness is an inherent aspect of our shared humanity. Join us in this exploration, where the philosophy of Aristotle, Arendt, Nussbaum, Sen, and others converges with the creative expressions of contemporary artists, where art transcends aesthetics to become a powerful reflection of our shared aspirations for a fairer, more just existence. Engage with the presented works, immerse yourself in the narratives, and contribute your voice to the ongoing dialogue on equity. Art becomes the language through which we communicate, share, and reflect on the diverse facets of fairness in our interconnected world.

This exhibition invites you to be an active participant in a conversation that challenges, inspires, and celebrates the evolving journey toward a world where fairness knows no bounds.
