BA (Hons) Fashion and Textiles students, from the Faculty of Creative Industries at the University of Portsmouth, are exhibiting at Portsmouth Guildhall from Monday 11th February – Monday 17th June.

About

BA (Hons) Fashion and Textile Design were one of the first degree courses to combine the disciplines of fashion and textiles alongside design-led enterprise projects to develop an exciting and challenging curriculum.  This exhibition celebrates collaborative and cross-disciplinary working as part of the degree.

The co-created images on display are the stunning outcome from a collaboration with Conde Nast College of Fashion and Design.

As part of the course, the production of fashion and textile collections has established our students as emerging creative talents in their respective fields.  Students are encouraged to recognise their own individual style and have the confidence to express and exploit it fully; to sing their own song.  The final outcomes are the result of extensive toiling and sampling; testing and prototyping.

Students had the opportunity to work to a live project brief and student design competitions in order to create a professional portfolio of work.  The final collections show a strong awareness of professional practice in the context of their chosen career path in the fashion and textile industry.

From a key look the students selected and creatively employed design development and construction techniques to further define their concept and materialize their collection developing a pre-collection of finished garments, including unique textiles designs.

Other images in this exhibition are taken from the course’s virtual reality fashion film called ‘Nonahedra’.  This unique interactive fashion film encompasses two and three-dimensional imagery. The aim of this film was to showcase the students’ major collections in a virtual environment presented at Graduate Fashion Week.

The film was generated using Unreal Engine, utilising visual components which included digital projection, 3D animation, motion capture, film and photography of the nine students work selected.  The virtual environment includes nine stages, each purposefully designed in order to showcase each student’s work in a unique way to connect to their design themes.

This exhibition is part of an ongoing exhibition programme hosted by the Faculty of Creative and Cultural Industries (CCI) at the University of Portsmouth in partnership with the Guildhall Trust.
