Leyden Gallery is delighted to welcome artist Samia Malik, who will present her newly devised performance piece called AZZADI: FREEDOM at Leyden Gallery on Saturday 7th May.

About

The performance is touring throughout the UK this year and combines live original bilingual songs with projections of translations, visual art and backing music featuring the eminent 'sitarist to the stars' Baluji Shrivastav.

Born in Saudi Arabia to Pakistani parents, Samia Malik has lived in the UK since she was a child. She was a participant of the Leyden Gallery Platform for Emerging Arts #3 in July 2014. Her dynamic and evolving working practice encompasses music, visual art and education. Drawing widely on her multiple heritages by combining, extending and subverting traditional forms, Malik’s work explores contemporary issues around identity, race and gender.

This is a rare opportunity to enjoy a special performance event in the vibrant and intimate surroundings of Leyden Gallery
