The City Gallery is delighted to present Bruce Ayling and Hannah Conroy in an exhibition entitled Ayling & Conroy. Ayling & Conroy are a collaborative pair of artists who produce playful, humorous artworks and organise exhibitions and events.
Ayling & Conroy's colour-saturated paintings, sculptures and installations are inspired by familiar images and objects from popular culture. They produce absurd hybrid sculptures that combine aspects of theme park landscaping with cartoon-like elements. Their ever-expanding range of artistic styles and processes also includes mountain paintings inspired by Bob Ross painting kits. Bob Ross is best known for his TV series in the USA The Joy of Painting, which ran from 1983 to 1995. During each half-hour segment, Ross would instruct viewers in the art of oil painting by painting an entire landscape over the course of the program, usually also providing a running commentary on the process as he worked.
