About

“AUTONOMY + DIGNITY” GROUP EXHIBITION

Autonomy (noun)

Freedom from external control or influence. Independence. Self-determination. Self-rule.

Dignity (noun)

A sense of pride in oneself. Worth, honor, respect.

LiTE-HAUS opens its 2024 exhibition year with a multi-media collaboration with Ukrainian curator and artist Lucy Nychai. The group show focuses on two important words: Autonomy and Dignity. Looking back at global events in 2023, we feel these two words encompass the important social and political issues humanity struggled with last year, and continues to.

“RESETTLEMENT” is an art residency program designed by Nychai to rethink the conditions and challenges faced by migrants in their journeys. In the program we conducted meetings to share narratives: home, traveling, family, self expression, community, dignity, neighborhood, authority, discovery, memory and nostalgia, etc.

This group exhibition is the result of the residency program conducted over several weeks at LiTE-HAUS. The show consists of storytelling, sound, photography, paintings, and assemblage.

Six artists were chosen for the program and the exhibition:

Ariana Emminghaus  +  Mariia Lutsak

Dmytro Goncharenko  +  Sinem Vardar

Antonina Savytska  +  Anton Vertwen
