About
Miart Gallery is pleased to present an exclusive collection of posthumous Auguste Rodin (1840-1917) bronze sculptures. These bronzes are casts from original foundry plasters and part of a limited edition, each numbered. Our collection includes two of Rodin’s most prominent works, The Kiss and The Age of Bronze. The exhibition will display 20 pieces, each showcasing Rodin’s study of human nature through figurative form.
Auguste Rodin is generally recognized as the most important sculpture artist of the nineteenth century and of Western man. He has created a body of work so universally recognized that sculptures such as The Kiss and The Thinker have become international icons.
Convinced early on that he was a great artist, Rodin was as determined to establish his reputation as he was prolific and audacious in his production. From 1872 to 1885 Rodin worked incessantly until he gained the status and network necessary to produce major commissions. By 1890 Rodin had become the most renowned sculptor in France; by 1900 he had achieved international recognition and today he is the world’s most recognized sculpture artist. His innovations in form and subject matter established his reputation as the first master of modern sculpture, but he also conquered the traditional forms in his unparalleled body of work. Rodin's fame and productivity have been matched by only one artist in the twentieth century, Pablo Picasso.
