About
François Auguste René Rodin (12 November 1840 – 17 November 1917) was a French sculptor, generally considered the founder of modern sculpture.
Auguste Rodin’s creation of the human body’s image that mirrors the ruptures, complexities and uncertainties of the modern age, interplayed with his unique ability to model a complex, multiform yet fierce surface in clay. In his own way, he invented a new form of expression. Rodin was constantly evolving in his exploration by experimenting with multiple forms, materials and assemblage, resulting in the creation of one of his most famous pieces of work “The Kiss”, found at the Miart Gallery along 20 of his other sculptures. Learning his skills working as an assistant in workshops across France and Belgium, his male bronze nude “The Age Of Bronze”, which opens Miart Gallery’s exhibition, made his name yet caused controversy, getting accused of casting it from his model instead of using his talent, being so real. This exhibition explores his complex process of casting bronze.
