• An initial introduction where Athena speaks with the visitor and becomes acquainted.
• A tour around Athena’s new secret home studio location in Hull, where she recently moved from London, in order to work in solitude creating her vision of a private dystopian, domestic world of characters. She will give you a glimpse into the world in which she is building. This will be followed by a series of questions by the visitor on any aspect of what they see. Athena will outline what she is working on currently.
• Athena will select a reading from one of her recently published novels or texts to share with the visitor in a live reading.

Athena Papadopoulos creates sculptural and linguistic environments which play out the characters and stereotypes of femininity with their tools of self-image creation. Connoting the practice of self-augmentation – of ‘dolling oneself up’ – Papadopoulos forms her works through layering material excess superimposed with personal and found imagery. Utilizing a list of cosmetic, medicinal, and consumable ingredients, Papadopoulos stains fabrics with red wine, lipstick, hair dyes, Pepto Bismol and self-tanner, among other substances commodified, coded and marketed towards certain consumer archetypes of femininity. Her private photographic archives are populated by the tragic and glorious muses from her own youth, whose linguistic practices, bodily treatments, anxieties and desires materialise in Papadopolous’s work.
