Athena Anastasiou is an artist, photographer and founder of London’s Pop Up Art Collective Meet The Artists. M.T.A has represented over 100 emerging artists from London, across 5 events and recently collaborated with Creative Debuts in Shoreditch.

Athena is a post graduate from Central St Martins, and is best known for her vibrant and eclectic large scale oil paintings produced from her studio in Dalston, East London.

Her exciting debut solo show Living Into Your Portrait suggests that we are all in control of creating our own experiences of life. The art of Manifestation. The concept that whatever we focus our attention on, will become our reality.

Athena was intrigued by how people can be oblivious to, or deny, their greatness; their capabilities, power and beauty. Living Into Your Portrait is about empowering people to see how exceptional they already really are, by showing them a mirror of themselves through paint.

Inspired by her family and close friend’s stories, Athena has created a series of portraits using thick expressive paint strokes and bold imagery. Her intention is to re-create her sitters through her vision of how she sees them, encouraging the sitter to see their true reflection from the painting. She invites them to live into that new reality and accept the path towards being who they already are.

“The concept is focused on building a strong connection with self by creating a portrait of a new, or existing, reality the sitter can live into; when you focus your attention on something for long enough, it beautifully becomes a reflection of who you really are”.
