In a grand and immediate celebration of Berlin museums opening back up, Art Tours Berlin takes you through her colossal retrospective at the Martin Gropius Bau, highlighting key works from her expansive resume. We will discuss painting, sculpture performance aspects of her oeuvre.
About
Yayoi Kusama is one of the world’s most important contemporary artists working in a range of media including drawing, sculpture, installation, film, performance, and much more.
Yayoi Kusama was born in 1929, in Matsumoto, Japan. She moved to Kyoto to study the traditional nihonga painting style at the Kyoto Municipal School of Arts and Crafts in 1948, and lived in New York up until 1977, crossing paths with some of the most well-known white, male contemporary artists including Donald Judd, Claes Oldenburg, Robert Ryman, et al. We will take you through her turbulent and fierce path in paving her way as one of the most important artists of our time.
