Exhibition examining how we live through newly commissioned works from six contemporary architecture practices.
In the midst of a growing housing crisis, can architects offer new approaches to tackle affordability and the ways in which we dwell, work and socialise? At Home in Britain: Designing the House of Tomorrow examines how we live and speculates on the future of housing in Britain. Taking the cottage, the terraced house and the flat as a starting point and using RIBA Collections as stimulus, six newly commissioned works from contemporary architecture practices Jamie Fobert Architects, Mӕ, Maison Edouard François, Mecanoo, Studio Weave and vPPR celebrate and critique architecture of the past. The six practices explore the increasingly relevant issues of affordability, housing density and shared living, demonstrating how housing in Britain could evolve to reflect the changing needs of individuals, families and society today and in the future.
