About

Julia Bardsley shares her strategies for instigating, developing & inhabiting personas. Calling on her own catalogue of perverse identities, including the Director & the Actress from Trans-Acts, the One & the Other from Almost The Same, MC Profit from Aftermaths, The Step from meta_Family & most recently, the mythic medea. Julia sets up structures, rituals & provocations to illicit unique presences and psychological bodies. She will work with notions of disguise on the cusp of the self, the transformative power of the wig, dressing in the bodies of others and creating abstract physiques, skins & wounds. This workshop is for performers/creators from all disciplines and levels of experience or simply for those who enjoy dressing up for the liberating & dangerously delicious sensation of being ‘Other'. Bardsley is a really fascinating artist...She could have been running the National Theatre by now, but instead quite deliberately chose a different career path. In recent years she has been making inspired and unsettling work on the cusp between the theatre and the gallery."
