About
Richmond artist Laura Parker is throwing open her studio doors to the public as part of the Art House Open Studios festival, being organised across the borough this July by local charity Arts Richmond.
Most recently focused on creating vibrant and abstract paintings, Laura is welcoming art lovers from far and wide to her beautiful garden studio from 11am - 6pm on 15th, 16th, 22nd and 23rd July. She will be offering a brief demonstration of her techniques, and often unexpected tools, each day at 3pm.
Over the last couple of years, Laura has been working in an experimental frame of mind. Her process focuses on continuous addition and subtraction, building up a rich history on the surface of each piece and responding intuitively to the possibilities each mark opens up. Recently exhibited under Luke Jerram’s ‘Gaia’ at the Landmark Arts Centre as part of the Richmond Arts & Ideas Festival, Laura is now looking forward to a more intimate showing of her work.
Laura says: “I am deeply influenced by nature, especially water, and enjoy creating a sense of flow and movement in my work. I delve into uncharted territory with each new piece, and figure it out as I go. For me, making art is exciting, scary, frustrating, addictive and rewarding, and an utterly indispensable part of my life.
I’m delighted to be able to welcome visitors to my studio for the first time in many years. It’s always very special to share where and how you create, to share insights and to watch how people connect with your work. I will also be sharing some brand new works for this event which visitors will be able to purchase before anyone else!”
Laura’s studio is located at 46 Kings Road, Richmond TW10 6NW
